Les Miserables: Film v Stage

If you know me, you'll know I've been both way too excited and terribly frightened by the prospect of Les Miserables coming out in the cinema. Well, it opened in Dublin this weekend and I went.

Spoiler tag for the paranoid.Collapse )

Dancing On Ice

Time was, I quite liked watching this show just to see some skating, no matter how basic it was. Every year the standard has raised, but I've found I just can hardly stand watching it.

"He has proper skating posture and footwork" no, he doesn't!
"She really has lovely lines" Maybe if shed bloody well point her toes!

Maybe it's due to all the judges training. But I'm not really certain that's it. It's like I'm not willing to give them the benefit of the doubt as I might've before.

The final is tonight, and it's really the only thing I've seen all year. I think I'll make a point of avoiding it next year just so I don't keep annoying my other half by correcting all the commentary!

Snow Falls on Thanksgiving

It was Turcai tonight- the night where I and my fellow American friends force our other friends to eat too much turkey and pie after stating what they are thankful for. Food was delicious, company lovely, and at about half past midnight it started to snow. Hard.

We had a snowball fight as we left our host's house, eventually flagged a taxi to take us home where we promptly changed into warmer clothes and went out armed with a camera and our childlike joy of the giant fat flakes coming down. There's a good 2-4 inches out there in the city centre. And it was lovely. Pics will follow in the am on FB.

And our good deed of the century was snuck in when we came across a woman and her husband who had fallen and cracked his head open. We got him out of the middle of the road, called the ambulance and waited til he had medical attention. Go us.

So as stated, I have been quite remiss in my posting. My excuse is that I've actually been crazy busy in real life for a change!

I'm back studying for the FE1s which has me both incredibly busy and rather stressed and yet, I still think it's a good idea. I haven't finished any of the projects I was working on, but I did make a baby quilt which can be seen on fbook. Both guitar and exercise has dropped by the wayside. Mostly I've been running around like a chicken with my head cut off.

Suppose it could be worse.

Back in the Interwebs

Its been a long time and long trial, but I once again have my computer back and working after close to a month of it not working. Yes, I could have (and occasionally did) use the other half's comp but mostly I didn't bother.

Its been a quiet month, although I'm starting off June in fine form, being off this week with repetitive strain in both my wrists, which is why this will be just a short update so they don't get too tired.

But I am really truly happy to once again have my computer back. Its like I regrew an arm I didn't realize I'd lost.

Crewel v Me: Winner Me

I've finished the embroidery. I'm very pleased at this and think they look quite good. The fabric ran a touch in some places but I think that's mostly because its a heavier weave than they called for and when I started I didn't have the sharpest of needles. Lessons have been learnt.

Now I just have to put it all together and we're done! Pictures will follow when its finished and there's no longer a worry that a certain someone will see their present early.

Threads Arrived!!

Ok, so they came on friday. But still, they came. This pleases me.

I have since started work on a crewel embroidery thingy for my mother for her birthday. I had thought I wouldn't get it done in time but at the minute its actually taking a lot less time than I thought it would to do the work. I've nearly got 1/3 of the whole embroidery done at this stage and if I actually put my head to it I reckon I can get most of it done by the end of the weekend, leaving enough time for me to sew it all together and get it posted off.

Fingers crossed.

Knitting & Stuff

I'm sick again. But this week I still managed to learn a new skill- knitting!

Heather was kind enough to come over tuesday and teach me and thursday I finished up my very first project- a pot holder! I'm quite pleased.

In other news- since I can't for the life of me find the thread I need to complete the aforementioned project for my mother, I'm back on my cross stitch. I'm hoping the threads will arrive in the post in short order so I can start what is sure to be a painstakingly slow project.

Its been many years since I had a channel on TV that gave decent coverage of anything other than GAA and Soccer. I am ecstatic to have gotten in cable tv in time for the Olympics this year.

The Winter Olympics are my favorites, and as I mentioned earlier today, it doesn't matter what event is on, I'm glued. Any other year, any other competition I can take it or leave it. But the Olympics make me giddy and tearful and oh so excited.

Our DVR is set for all the figure skating events and I've already thoroughly enjoyed the ski jumping, speed skating and biathalon that I've watched so far.

Looking forward to turning it on again tomorrow and tearing up as whatever country's anthem is played and flag raised as people stand on podiums and cry as they smile.

I love this time of year.
